Meniscal Tears: Meniscal Repair and Meniscectomy

Dr. Simon Tournemine

Orthopaedic Surgeon in Paris

Meniscal tears are a common cause of knee pain. They do not heal spontaneously and may result in persistent pain and mechanical symptoms within the knee.

Depending on the type of tear and its location, two surgical options may be considered:

  • Meniscal repair, which preserves and sutures the torn meniscus whenever possible;
  • Meniscectomy, which involves removing only the damaged portion of the meniscus.

Both procedures are performed arthroscopically, using a minimally invasive, camera-assisted technique that avoids opening the knee joint.
